Blog and Progress Commentary

This blog hasn’t been made for a specific target audience. When making it, I obviously aimed it towards women slightly more, however that’s only because of timing, I only had time to focus on one demographic. If I were to continue this blog further, I’d like to run interviews with men talking about their experiences. However, saying that this blog is for anyone that would like to read it. Body positivity is all about accessibility, and it’s still currently happening now, it’s such a contemporary topic that I hope anyone would like to read this blog and become part of the body positivity movement.

When I was writing my dissertation literature review, there was quite a considerable lack in research involving plus size women, I often had to take theory and broadly apply it to my topic. However with this blog, I think I’ve taken that theory but applied it to a wider audience, I’ve adapted the theory to fit popular culture, to make the concept of fat activism more accessible to my target audience.

I thought a blog would be a useful way of communicating my research and ideology, as it links into the main ethos that runs throughout my project, inclusivity. Fourth wave feminism based its ideology off inclusivity and equality, and therefore my blog did the same. Like I said before I’d love to broaden the demographic of my blog after university and due to Covid-19 my sources were limited as to what I could achieve. However, I’m pleased with the content and layouts chosen for the blog as they’re simple and hopefully don’t distract from the main message of the blog: body positivity.  I plan on developing and expanding this blog by making it accessible for phones. At the moment it is only accessible for laptops, all the graphics have been made for a laptop screen, however, now with more time I can expand the blog and make it more accessible for everyone. Widening accessibility further feeds into the fourth wave feminist ideology that I was exploring throughout my dissertation and project.

My aim is to feature this blog on my creative media CV, I’d love to work for a body positivity or fat activism campaign after graduation, and from my previous research, so many of them feature blogs such as this with stories of personal experiences. If I was in a position to, I’d still like to curate and put on my exhibition, possibly in collaboration with one of the women I interviewed for this blog. I’d hope that I have more time to do so, opening up the questions to men and transgender people, feeding into the inclusivity of the body positivity movement. However, I am aware that holding an exhibition fully depends on my financial situation at the time, as I’d be paying for the exhibition space, possible photo frames used and any other recourses I’d need. Seeing as I will no longer be under an institution, the funding will come from myself rather than the institution (in my case university). I think if I were to continue this blog further I’d have to develop some form of consent form for each participant to sign, in case the blog was to be used for commercial purposes or published further.
